Review: Breaking Bad Season 1 Is The Beginning Of The Best

10 years ago a pantsless man recorded a heartfelt message to his family while standing next to an RV meth lab. 10 years ago television changed.

Walter White (Bryan Cranston) is your average, everyday chemistry teacher, until he finds out he has what will likely be terminal lung cancer. In desperation, and in hopes of leaving something for his family when he is no longer there, he turns to ex-student turned drug dealer Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) with a lucrative proposal. Utilising his chemistry knowledge, and Jesse's street-smarts, they begin to cook methamphetamine. But before long Walter discovers that hiding his second life from his family, and keeping his family hidden from the New Mexico underworld, is more difficult than he anticipated.

Television has been the residence of mature content for well over a decade. But, before Breaking Bad, the space dominated by a select few, most notably HBO. Following Breaking Bad however, everyone decided they wanted a piece. None of them quite made it though. From the writing, the direction, the acting, the characters, the cinematography and the story, Breaking Bad truly stands alone.

Watching Walter White change drastically over the course of 10 episodes makes for some of the most enthralling television around. The subtleties and nuances of the story layer atop one another, slowly building to a climax that is saved for another season. It's gripping stuff, even if you know it won't be resolved for sometime.

There's not much else to say than that. Breaking Bad is definitely worth watching. I can guarantee you won't regret it.
