Review: Death Wish II, An Unnecessary, But Not Unwelcome Sequel

Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) just can't catch a break.

After the events of the first film, and following a gang attack on him and his new family, this one featuring Laurence Fishburne, and the kidnapping and death of his daughter, Paul Kersey is once again on the path of revenge.

From the moment it begins, it's clear that Death Wish II isn't worried about setting up characters or plot. We know who Paul Kersey is and we know he's prepared to kill. It's just a matter of time until the killing begins. And when it does, it's personified with excess. Thugs are gunned down with merciless efficiency, blood splatters the walls and no one is safe.

As a sequel, it introduces enough new ideas to prevent it from stagnating while retaining the simplicity that made the original so enjoyable. There's really not much else that can be said of it. If you enjoyed the first film, you'll probably enjoy this one just as much.
