Review: Justice League Is About As Fun As A Bonfire

While it's burning, it's fun but when it's out, there's just a lot of ash left to clean up. But hey, it's my second favourite DCEU movie, so there's that.

When a poorly rendered alien being known as Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) comes to Earth to conquer, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and Victor Stone (Ray Fisher) must cast aside their differences and work together as...The Avengers. No, wait, The Justice League. But they're the same thing so who really cares. Also, Superman (Henry Cavill)

I was not expecting to laugh during the course of Justice League and yet I laughed harder than I had in any movie of this year. Be it the godawful writing, the often comical effects, the genuinely well done Flash or cinemas greatest headbutt, there was much joy, and I doubt that's what the movie wanted. It has some good moments. The Flash is great, as is Batman, and there is some fun to be had.

I won't lie and tell you that Justice League is a good movie, it's far from it, but it is somewhat enjoyable. While the plot is often groan inducing and the whole thing feels like little more than a series of action scene held together with poor quality glue, Justice League taps into the 12 year old part of your brain. It's cool to see Flash and Auqauman on screen together, even if the desperate attempt to make Aquaman "cool" don't go so well.

So should you go see Justice League? Yes and no. If you go see it, you may encourage the crappy direction the DCEU is taking, if you don't, it may die before it gets better. I can however, recommend check it out on digital or physical media when it's available. It's crappy stupid fun and that's okay.
