Review: Murder On The Orient Express Is A Fine Film Indeed

Take some of the best working actors around, throw them into a tale that has proven its resilience to time with a director who is more than capable, what could possibly go wrong? Not a lot as it turns out.

A man is killed aboard the prestigious Orient Express. The suspects are many. A nurse, a doctor, a professor, a princess and more. All are suspects. But the killer didn't count on one thing. He is, perhaps, the greatest director in the world, Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh). Let the games begin.

Featuring six academy award nominees/winners, Murder On The Orient Express has one of the best casts since Lord Of The Rings. There is however, one downside to this. In a film so packed with excellent actors, those who are lesser are readily pushed aside by the titans along which they stand. Branagh handily steals every scene he's in as the enigmatic Poirot, who mustache is the only thing greater than his performance.

From the opening scene to the closing, two things stand out. For one, the visuals. They're great. For a movie about a bunch of people on a train, there's some great cinematography here. And the other is the writing. It is both snappy and funny, clever and easy to follow. The film flies along at a break neck pace and yet, never did I feel lost or confused.

Murder On The Orient Express is one of the easier recommendations of 2017. Aside from being a textbook example of excellent film-making, it's just an all around fun film. Go check it out.
