Review: Happy Death Day Is A Movie You'll Watch Again, And Again, And Again

I can't say I expected much from Happy Death Day. It was just a slasher with an interesting twist, that being that it repeated itself until the heroine was successful. But that was before I saw the movie.

Tree (Jessica Rothe) is your standard college sorority girl. Her life is full of partying, one night stands and all the usual stuff. At least until she's brutally murdered by an unknown attacker. And then she wakes, exactly as she did on the day she died. As it turns out, it's the same day. And so begins the cycle of death and resurrection as Tree tries to find out the identity of her killer, and finds herself along the way.
As I said before, I wasn't expecting much from Happy Death Day. What I got however, was a fun, often funny, entry into the slasher genre, one that easily makes its place known by relying on quality film making instead of the blood and gore these films are known for. From the heroine getting so used to repeatedly dying that she sees it as little more than an inconvenience and several left field turns, to a surprisingly great ending and what I must assume to be very self aware writing.

There's not much to say without spoiling things so I'll just say this. If you watch movies for fun, there's no reason not to check out Happy Death Day. While it isn't necessarily cinema worthy, it's a fun time whichever way you watch it.
