Review: Robocop Is Still One Of Science Fiction's Finest

30 years ago today Officer Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) exploded onto screens. Part man, part machine, all policeman, he was Robocop, the no nonsense, Paul Verhoeven directed, badass.

Alex Murphy is the Detroit PD's latest member. Detroit of the future is a crime ridden pit of corruption and villainy, so not much has changed. When Murphy attempts to capture one Clarence Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) he is all but blown apart. But the mega-corporation OCP believes that they can rebuild him into something more than human. And so, Robocop is born. Deployed to the streets, he begins a one man crusade to clean the city up, once and for all.

Robocop is one of the most enjoyable films ever made. Between it's gratuitous violence, incredible score, great effects and cutting satire, it's maybe Verhoeven's finest work. Robocop himself is one of the greatest on screen heroes, has some of the greatest one liners and features some great villains. It epitomises the 80's, oozing neon, synth and style.

Robocop is one of those films that defines their decade. It's the ultimate 80's film, perfectly melding action and satire and you should definitely check it out.
