Review: Headshot Is More Than A Raid Knockoff

What do you get when you take The Bourne Identity and add a heavy dose of The Raid? One of the most violent, uncompromising and entertaining action films of recent years.

A young man (Iko Uwais) washes ashore, a single bullet lodged in his head. He is, miraculously, alive, though he has no memory of his past. But when his very real past begins catching up with him, his life will never be the same again.
Very much mimicking the success of The Raid films, right down to starring a number of the same actors in very similar roles, Headshot is another excellent action movie hailing from Indonesia. The most notable comparison is Iko Uwais, once again tearing his way through Indonesian crime with little more than his fists and feet.
The action is the saving grace of Headshot as the story, while not particularly bad, isn't anything special. But what action it is. Blood soaks beaches, buses, prisons and police stations and by the end, no one is fully intact. Outside of the expectedly excellent martial arts is some truly brutal gunfights as well as various duels, often ending with both parties in the floor, though not necessarily both living.

Headshot is nothing if not blood soaked entertainment. While it isn't nearly as well crafted as The Raid films from which it so clearly draws from, it's a worthy addition to the action genre by anybodies count.
