Review: Keanu Brings Blood, Drugs And Kittens.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have been my go to funny guys for some time. First making a name for themselves on the Comedy Central show named after them, they quickly became some of the best comedy on the internet. But what can they do on the silver screen? Quite a lot.

Rell (Jordan Peele) is going through the aftermath of a hard break up. When all seems lost a sliver of light shines through the clouds in the form of Keanu, the cutest kitten in cinema. When his life seems to be pulling itself together disaster strikes. Keanu is kidnapped by nefarious gangsters and now it's up to Rell and his cousin Clarence (Keegan-Michael Key) must infiltrate the gang and rescue the kitten.

Keanu is more than just a comedy, it's also a pretty great parody of action movies like Taken and John Wick. Shootouts, interrogations and right down to the very cinematography. Keanu masterfully weaves genuine laughs, action movie references and social commentary in a movie that is as funny as it is cool.

The action movie influences run through the film, bringing life to the feature. From screaming in the rain to direct mentions of various movies and subversions of iconic movie moments. While it's not an out and out parody of any particular film it clearly draws inspiration from them. There's slow motion shootouts, car chases and villains that seem to be a mix of heavy metal singers and the undead.

Keanu is a good time. It's got good action, solid laughs and a pretty decent plot to boot. While it's not perfect and it starts to get a little convoluted at the end, it's easily one of the most watchable movies ever made.
