Review: The Amazing Spiderman 2

Spiderman has had a long and rocky history on the big screen. From Sam Rami's originals to this years Spiderman: Homecoming, the wall crawler had had more different appearances than any other hero, as well as his fair share of sequels.

Following the events of The Amazing Spiderman, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) has graduated and is struggling to balance being a hero and loving Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone). But, between the standard superhero relationship problems, there's a new villain and an old friend hanging around.

There's a lot of crap here, less that the first film but it's hardly good. While Garfield's Spiderman is his usual fun loving self and arguably the best the character has ever been, the human elements of the film are so poorly done that they range from laughable to forgettable. The new villain, Electro, played by Jamie Foxx, is something of a mixed bag. Beginning as a somewhat sympathetic character, he soon descends into the usual over the top nemesis. Dane Dehaan plays Harry Osborne as well as The Green Goblin and, much like Electro, is a poor balance between sympathetic and maniacal.

It must be said, the Spiderman scenes are genuinely good and go above and beyond the previous franchise. The music is cinematic and the character feels as if he was ripped straight from a comicbook. Electro on the other, talks to himself in rhymes and introduces himself as such. Unfortunately the last twenty minutes exist in which we are "treated" to the abysmal goblin, the king of overacting, even outdoing WIllem Dafoe's original, it's truly awful.

The Amazing Spiderman 2 is hardly worth watching. Check out the spidey scenes on you Youtube and you've saved yourself time and money. This is hardly a bad movie but it isn't very good either, though I can't say I would object to finishing the trilogy.
