Review: The Amazing Spiderman

Oh boy, this one's bad, really really bad.

Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is your typical good looking, intelligent, average guy who, for reasons unknown, is neglected by almost everyone he knows. But after he is bitten by a genetically modified spider, he develops incredible powers, the likes of which you seen before, namely in the other Spiderman origin story.
The Amazing Spiderman is just about the least original and imaginative superhero films ever made. It is a film without a soul, a movie quite literally created to maintain hold of a character license.
The acting is bad. Truly awful. Garfield, an actor since nominated for an Academy Award, stammers his way through the movie and when he's not doing that he's desperately trying to make the best of an awful script. Emma Stone plays Gwen Stacey and between looking utterly gormless, she just seems bored. The only performance that's any good is Martin Sheen’s Uncle Ben, and he barely breaks through the terrible writing.

The action is alright in that mildly serviceable manner. It’s neither thrilling nor boring, it simply is. That might just have been the films motto. It's so bland, so devoid of personality that it's better off being forgotten.
